Maldivian, the Maldives' national airline, has announced the introduction of direct flights from Mumbai to Maafaru. Starting in April 2021, Maldivian will fly three weekly flights from Mumbai to Maafaru, according to the airline.
Speculations about Maldivian's next destination have been rife in recent days. According to the airline, India is a promising market for the Noonu Atoll's resorts and guesthouses. In terms of visitor arrivals, India is actually the leading source market for the Maldives.
The national airline played an important role during the pandemic, and our mission now is to stretch our wings ever further so that we can support our cities and economy.
The Maafaru International Airport in the Noonu Atoll opened on December 1, 2019. Velaa Private Island and Soneva Jani, two of the Maldives' most expensive resorts, are both near to the airport.
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development contributed USD 60 million to the development of the Maafaru International Airport (ADFD). A 2200 meter runway, taxiways, an apron with shoulder, and service roads are all available at the airport. The Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft can be accommodated and all services are provided by Maafaru.
The runway at Maafaru Airport will be extended to handle Boing 777 twin-jet aircraft. According to previous sources, the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accepted funding for the project's further growth.
