Ziyaarat

A ziyaarat is a mausoleum of a Muslim holy person. Local tradition holds that this burial site on Hithadhoo has an unidentified body that was found washed up on the shore nearby.
That grave is marked by the carved coral head and footstones, housed in a small, sand-floored structure within a walled enclosure. The surrounding wall of the compound incorporates carved coral stones that appear to have been repurposed from the ruins of an earlier Buddhist site nearby.
