A joint webinar between Visit Maldives and Qatar Airways was conducted successfully. The webinar told the travel trade about the destination and presented the most up-to-date information on flight path resumption.
The webinar attracted 407 top travel agents and tour operators from the aforementioned markets. According to the details given, the Maldives is one of the best countries to visit during this period. The islands' geographical isolation, the one-island-one-resort concept, and the strict health and safety protocols in place made it a popular tourist destination. The award, funded by Baglioni Resort Maldives, included a 5-day all-inclusive trip for two guests.
In January 2021, 3,390 travelers from Germany, 1,958 from Switzerland, and 1,177 from Austria arrived. Germany is ranked 7th in the industry, while Switzerland and Austria are ranked 10th and 13th, respectively. With national promotions, fairs, roadshows, and joint campaigns with other airlines and top tour operators in key markets, Visit Maldives is successfully marketing the destination in other key markets. By 2020, the Maldives government hopes to double the number of German tourists to 5,000 a year. The government also plans to raise the number of tourists from Switzerland and Austria.
