After a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Maldives imposed a travel ban on Indians. Indian tourists would not be permitted to stay in guesthouses or hotels on inhabited islands from April 27, 2021. The island nation has long been a popular destination for Indian tourists and Bollywood stars.
The Maldives suspended tourist entry from South Asian countries on May 13, 2021. This excludes visitors from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In terms of tourist arrivals, India was the Maldives' largest individual market. Travelers from India may have to wait a few months to return to the Maldives due to the circumstances.
In 2021, the Maldives hopes to attract 1.5 million tourists. However, the government would have some obstacles in achieving this aim, as Indian tourists are now unable to enter the Maldives. There has been no official announcement that travel between India and the Maldives will be resumed. Some states in the country began to relax restrictions, while others chose to keep them in place.
