The Maldives is being promoted at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), which is the Middle East's leading international travel and tourism case. Visit Maldives is portrayed by a 420-square-meter stand that showcases tourist goods and special experiences. The Maldives exhibit is designed to accommodate a limited number of guests at any given time and to have surfaces that are routinely sanitized. During ATM, the Maldives also took part in media interviews and panel discussions on a global scale.
ATM is a hybrid event, with the live portion held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Middle Eastern sector has long been a major source of revenue for the Maldives. The Middle East has been a primary target market since the reopening of the borders. In 2020, 26,288 visitors from the Middle East will visit the Maldives, with core markets being among the top source countries for arrivals after the lockdown time. The Maldives had received a total of 418,579 visitors as of May 12th, with 7,729 of those arriving from the Middle East.
On July 15, 2020, the Maldives will reopen its borders to visitors of all nationalities. The Maldives Tourism Ministry and Visit Maldives have launched the "I'm Vaccinated" initiative. The main goal is to make the Maldives the first completely vaccinated tourist destination on the planet. The Covid-19 vaccine was first administered on February 1, 2021, with the government promising to offer free COVID-19 vaccines to all people.
