Restrictions will begin on April 27th, 2021. A negative PCP test will also be expected of Indian tourists. This includes those who have received a full COVID-19 vaccination. Those who have spent more than 24 hours in transit in India will be subjected to a test as well.
Starting April 27, Indian visitors will be unable to check into hotels and guesthouses on residential islands. In 2020, Indian tourists accounted for 11.3 percent of overall tourist arrivals in the Maldives. From July 15, 2020, the Maldives will reopen its borders to all nationalities. With a verified reservation for a stay, all tourists are given a 30-day free on-arrival visa.
