Ithaa was spectacularly'sunk' five meters under the Indian Ocean's surface in 2005. The theme for unique dining is set by curved acrylic walls that have 180-degree panoramic views. (In the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, itthaa means ''mother of pearl''.)

Ithaa is the world's first underwater restaurant in the theme of an aquarium. The resort is located near some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the Maldives. Male's Velana International Airport is a 25-minute seaplane ride away from Rangali Island. Whale Shark tours have made the atoll popular.
