Up to three days before and seven days after scheduled flights, Oryx One will be available. On the ground and in flight, the service would eliminate newspaper and magazine pollution. Passengers would not need to quit OryX One or download any additional applications to access the content, unlike other airline digital offerings.
"Our alliance with PressReader not only provides a COVID-safe, contactless entertainment solution to further enrich our passengers' on-board experience," said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker. "In addition, we've uncovered the ideal interactive approach for eliminating newspaper and magazine pollution by over 1,000 tonnes a year on the ground and in flight," he said. Passengers can read thousands of top-name global magazine and newspaper titles through the Oryx One app.
In the commercial aviation industry, PressReader is the leading provider of multimedia in-flight publishing materials. The award-winning Oryx One in-flight entertainment system from Qatar Airways provides travelers with up to 4,000 entertainment options. The airline recently earned the coveted 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating, making it the first global airline to do so. This comes on the heels of HIA's latest acknowledgment as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to earn a 5-star Skytrax Airport Safety Rating. Qatar Airways is beginning to expand its network, which now covers over 120 destinations and is scheduled to reach over 130 by the end of March 2021. The airline is the only one to have won the prestigious 'Skytrax Airline of the Year' award five times, and is considered the benchmark of achievement in the airline industry. The 1-2-1 seat arrangement of the Qsuite seat provides travelers with the most spacious, completely private, comfortable, and socially distanced Business Class offering in the sky.
