The Maldives will be featured at FITUR 2021, the world's largest international travel and tourism trade show, which will be held in Spain. The aim of Visit Maldives is to raise destination awareness and increase visitor numbers to the Maldives. Maldives is portrayed by a 72 sqm stand that was created specifically to showcase the beauty and wonder of the Maldives.
With an audience of 11,040 companies representing 165 countries in 2020, FITUR broke the previous record. For the first three days, the fair is only open to trade tourists, but on the weekend, the general public is welcome. Along with Visit Maldives, the participants will have the opportunity to showcase their most recent items and experiences. As of March 2021, the Maldives had welcomed over 3,400 visitors from Spain, making it the 18th most popular destination in the country. It is hoped that as a result of mass vaccination campaigns and the relaxation of travel restrictions, the number of people arriving from Spain would rise.
On July 15, 2020, the Maldives reopens its borders to visitors of all nationalities. To raise awareness of the destination, Visit Maldives is currently running a digital campaign with Passporter APP, a leading travel app in Spain. The ultimate goal is to make the Maldives the first completely vaccinated tourism destination on the planet. The administration of the Covid-19 vaccine began on February 1, 2021, with the Maldives government committing to providing free COVID-19 vaccines to all people and residents.
