VIA is celebrating its 55th birthday

To commemorate the day, a flag hoisting ceremony was conducted at VIA at 0600 hours. Mr. Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism, and Mr. Gordon Andrew Stewart, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MACL, attended the ceremony. The CEO and MD congratulated the workers on their achievement and thanked them for their hard work and determination during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

VIA plans to construct the world's largest seaplane terminal, a VIP/CIP terminal, new aprons, a new runway, a new cargo terminal, and a new fuel farm in the Maldives. Mr. Ibrahim Nasir, the former President of the Maldives, inaugurated VIA on April 12, 1966. The service came to a close with a special prayer and the cutting of a ceremonial cake. "I am glad and proud that the airport service proceeded smoothly despite the pandemic," Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom said.
